Evolution of Fencing | Fencing Week

British Fencing are distributing a series of ‘Road To Rio’ interactive emails. Contact Satish Thakuri (development@britishfencing.com) if you want to be included in the distribution list.  The first issue includes a 2 minute video called ‘Evolution of Fencing’ which is well worth a watch and would be a good introduction to a presentation on the subject of modern fencing.  You’ll need to visit YouTube to view the clip as the IOC has disabled viewing elsewhere, cheers IOC.  However it’s well worth a look.

The Art of Foil with Team Italy by Gillette World Sport

Will Godsiff (will.g@diagonal-view.com) contacted me on behalf of Gillette World Sport to tell me about a video (4’27″) they had produced with the gold medal winning Italian Fencing Team discussing the team event at the Olympics.

The video is very professionally put together, consists mainly of pieces to camera and mainly in English, by the fencers plus their national coach.

Piece to camera by Andrea Cassarà, Olympic Champion 2004 & 2012 Team Foil

Contains some very useful insights for all fencers (especially younger ones entering competitions in their first few season) and coaches.

Nice to see a blade manufacturer interested in fencing!  Here’s a link to the video… enjoy and absorb.  Thanks Gillette.

Regards… Pete Ellinger, Coach
